Social/Recreation Program
The Delaware County Advocacy & Resource Organization’s Social/Recreational Program holds a variety of Social & Recreational events for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The Program offers a variety of activities that appeal to the many interests and abilities of our program participants. It also provides fun, friendship, social interaction, community inclusion, social skill building opportunities as well as respite to families and care-takers.
Some activities currently offered through the program include: seasonal dances (four per year), Bowling and Putt-Putt Leagues, movie nights, dance classes, and First Friday social gatherings. The Social/Recreational Program also offers day trips into the community to enjoy live theater, sporting events, corporate tours and other community inclusive activities.
The Social/Recreational Program builds and fosters relationships with local institutions of higher learning, churches and other community clubs to engage volunteers to participate in the program, and further educating the community about Individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities. This volunteer participation promotes the social interaction and community inclusion aspect of the program.
